Susan has been writing professionally for 25 years. As a journalist, she’s covered everything from the local politics to the arts, but recently her focus has been food, health, and book reviews.
Her short stories and essays have published in literary magazines and collections, including Minnesota Lunch, a short history of important sandwiches.
As creative director at a food content marketing agency, she helped iconic brands and up-and-coming CPGs and producers hone their brand and content strategies. She’s written copy that extolled cowboy art, chronicled the work-a-day life of an avocado, and evangelized everything from Post-it Notes to pneumococcal vaccines.
She’s a keen listener, she enjoys collaboration — and she’s passionate about finding the story.

“By making stories full of empathy and amusement and the sheer pleasure of discovering the world, … writers reassert the fact that we live in a world where joy and empathy and pleasure are all around us, there for the noticing. They make the world seem like an exciting place to live .” — Ira Glass
